George Jefferson "Jerry" Green was the second husband of Mary Elizabeth Howard. They were married on July 22, 1874 in Dover, Pope, Arkansas ( Page 352 by Martin R. Brown, Justice of the Peace ). This was about six months after the murder of her first husband, Sard William McAlister. George and Mary had one child, Mary Sabina "Aunt Beany" Green Patterson.

During the Civil War, George Jefferson Green enlisted on 21 Dec 1861 in Dardanelle, Yell, Arkansas as a Private in Company "E" of Lemoyne's 17th Arkansas Infantry Regiment, CSA commanded by Colonel George W. Lemoyne. His service record indicates he was sick and granted furlough on June 20th, 1862. Government Pension Records for the Years of 1910 through 1915 show that he received Pension Payments for his Confederate service and that the payments were made in Pope County, Arkansas.

Green aged 33 years, and Mary McAllister aged 44 years both of Pope County, Arkansas and did then and there pronounced them husband and wife.
