Gilbert Laffette "Gabe" Laird was born April 29, 1893, at Decatur, Texas, and lived there until 1912. He moved to Coyle, Oklahoma,, and stayed with his Aunt Rhoda Hines while working in the oilfield near there. In 1925, he moved to Bethany, Oklahoma, where he resided until his death, February 1, 1946.

He married Miss Tressie Hicks in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on November 30, 1920. To this couple were born two sons, Turner and Delmar and one daughter, Eupha. As a child, Mr. Laird was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Texas.

He was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason January 13, 1922, in Guthrie Lodge #35, Guthrie, Oklahoma, and was made a 32° Mason in 1924. He was a charter member of Bethany Lodge #529 AF and AM, having demitted from Guthrie Lodge #35 July 3, 1931. At the time of his death, he was a member in good standing in both Bethany Lodge #529 and of the Oklahoma Consistory at Guthrie, Oklahoma.

He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Tressie Laird, of 25 years, a daughter, Mrs. Eupha Strout, and two sons, Turner Laird and Delmar Laird, two sisters, Mrs. Rosie Johnson of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Mrs. Eva Shelton of Coyle, Oklahoma, two brothers, Tom Laird of Decatur, Texas, and Rube Laird of Tomball, Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
