Ernest L. Castro - Huerfano World - March 5, 1998 - Accident claims 3 (with pictures) - Three Walsenburg residents were pronounced dead at the scene of a one vehicle accident on Highway 10, 30 miles east of the city in Pueblo County.
They were going to a funeral in Crowley County. Identified at the scene were the driver, Ernest L. Castro, 43, his mother, Della Vallejos, 77 and Renee A. Ortibez, 33.
According to the state patrol report by Sgt. Paul Matzke, it appears that Castro fell asleep and his 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle traveled 282 feet before correcting back onto the highway and then ran across the roadway and off the left side. It rolled two and half times, coming to rest on its top. Mr. Castro and Ms. Ortibez were ejected while the vehicle was rolling.
