Lester Ray "Buck" Howard, 58, of Decatur, died Saturday, March 6, 2004, at his residence.
A native and lifelong resident of Meigs County, he was a son of the late George and Nancy Irene Goforth Howard, and was a member of Short Creek Baptist Church. He was employed at Elkins Cricket Farm for more than 22 years.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara McKenzie Howard of Decatur; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jesse and Dana Howard of Athens, and Doug Howard of Decatur; five grandchildren, Cary, Coy, Josh, Alissa and Brandon Howard; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and Jim Holbert of West Virginia, and Jean and Mike Tipton of Etowah; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Jo Howard of Decatur, and Robert and Pam Howard of Spring City; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Short Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Walker and the Rev. David Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Short Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rex and Lee Womac, Mike and Adam Chiles, Mike Lawson and Bo Denton. Honorary pallbearers will be David Womac and David Skidmore.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Ziegler Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
