Served in Company B, Galt's 1st Regiment, Georgia State Line (Joe Brown Defenders).

The Georgia State Line was a separate force set up during the War Between the States by Governor Joseph Emerson Brown to guard Georgia's State Railroads (although the unit ended up fighting alongside the Army of Tennessee throughout the Atlanta campaign). They had the nickname "Joe Brown's pets" and included many in their late teens.
