James Pelton, an old and respected citizen, who has made his home north of Benton for many years, died quite suddenly at the home of Mrs. M. J. Wills last Friday at noon. Mr. Pelton was on his way carrying the Paron route mail when stricken. When he got to the Wills home he was speechless and passed away within an hour of being taken into the house. Funeral services were held at the family home in Benton Saturday afternoon, a large number of friends of the family being in attendance to pay a last tribute of respect to one whom all respected. Services were conducted by Rev. W. A. Steel, pastor of the Benton Methodist church. Burial was at Rosemont Cemetery. Mr. Pelton is survived by his wife and five children: Oscar, Misses Angie and Belle Pelton, Mrs. Frank Shoppach, and Mrs. Harvey Wright. (from the Benton Courier, November 29, 1917)
