He enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a REGULAR RANGER on December 22, 1917 thru March 17, 1919, as a private in Company K. William had three relatives who were also rangers. Ranger Sykes C. Butler, father; Ranger Marvin N. Butler, cousin; Ranger Sidney W. Butler, distant cousin. William Bryan Butler died August 8, 1969, Karnes County, Texas and was buried in the Butler Cemetery in Kenedy.
