James was the son of William Jackson and Annie Robertson Giles. His father is buried in New Addition Annex of Palestine City Cemetery. James was a welder for Union Pacific Railroad. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He married Willie Thelma Goebel Giles 9 April 1948. He was residing in Palestine, TX at the time of his death. He was survived by his wife; one daughter, Vicki Lynn Giles Ritchie of Garland; two sisters, Willie Juanita Giles Moser and Nora Giles Jackson, both of Palestine; one brother, L. V. Giles of Palestine, and one grandson. His obituary was published in the Palestine Herald-Press, Sunday, 13 April 2003.
