US Army World War II∼John James Boatright, 82, of Swainsboro died Tuesday afternoon, April 3, at Ogeechee Area Hospice of Statesboro.
He was born in Emanuel County and had lived in Liberty and Long Counties for many years, before returning to Swainsboro. He was a farmer and a civil service employee. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II, and was also a Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Boatright of Swainsboro; three sons, Howard John Boatright (Patricia) of Rogersville, Tenn., Connie Boatright of Hinesville, Edward G. Boatright (Betty Sue) of Duluth; one daughter, Joyce Lampel of Midway; one brother, Earl Boatright of Midway; two sisters, Bessie Maddox of Savannah, and Maxine Wheeler of Savannah; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home with the Rev. J.C. Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the Faith Baptist Church Cemetery in Hinesville.
Pallbearers will be Jody Gibson, Charles Lambert, Steve Hodges, Darrell Hill, Bubba West, Alex Perkins, Louis Ackridge, and Steve Boatright. Honorary pallbearers will be Garvin Purcell, Billy Johnson, Henderson Robitzsch, Gary Lampel, Rick Schroeder, Bill Hayes and Sam Sconyers.
Tomlinson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
