When he was a young man Jesse left his home in Louisville, Ohio, and headed west to Iowa then from there to Colorado. It was there in Denver, Colorado he started a quilt shop. In this shop he made quilt tops with a machine. It was said that he could quilt 5 ordinary ones in a day.
In the 1900 census Jesse was living with his cousin Nora (Culler) Hiller in Grandmeadow Township, Cherokee County, Iowa. He was listed as a farm hand age 32 born October 1868 in Ohio.

He was united in marriage to Mary Flora on October10, 1909. She preceded him in death ten years ago. To this union was born one daughter. He leaves, besides his daughter, two granddaughters, three brothers, two sisters and many other relatives and friends. Bro. Culler lived a life of Christian service, having given his life to the service of the Lord in early manhood. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren. He was a lovable father and friend, a liberal giver to the cause of Christ and to all who were in need. He will be sadly missed. Funeral services were conducted by Bro. John S. Whiteneck, Jr., and the writer at the Moore's Mortuary. Interment was in the Crown Hill Cemetery, Denver, Colorado.
