Herman was baptized as Joseph Herman Gentz at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Duplainville, Wisconsin. The sponsors were Joseph Wirtz and Maria Jannes. During the time of the 1880 U.S. Census, Herman lived with his parents in Pewaukee. In 1910, Herman lived with his parents on Walnut Street in Milwaukee. The Archdiocese of Milwaukee's Catholic Cemeteries website lists him as Herman J. Gentz and says his last residence was at 2216 Walnut in Milwaukee. However, his headstone says his name was Herman G. Gentz. I am wondering if there was a mistake made on his middle initial on his headstone. He was buried next to his sister, Catherine Gentz. She also lived with her parents in the 1910 census but died that same year.
