SUTTONS BAY- George W. Buckler 56, a life-long resident of Leelanau County and a resident of Suttons Bay for almost five years, died Thursday evening at the U. S. Veterans Administration hospital Ann Arbor.
He was born July 18, 1908, in Leland. He was a commercial fisherman for 30 years, and he was employed by the C & O Railroad for five years at Grand Haven.
During World War II he served with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific for about three years.
Surviving are his wife Helen; a son William of Charlevoix; a daughter, Diana at home; two sisters, Mrs. Irene Baxter of Paw Paw and Mrs. Arthur (Margaret) Borsch of R. 1. Maple City; two brothers Walter of R 5 Traverse City and Roy of Leland.
The body will be brought to the Martinson-Hallead funeral home Suttons Bay late tonight, Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Karl Weckwert of the Immanuel Lutheran Church Leland officiating. Burial will be in the Beechwood Cemetery, Leland.
