The Waxahachie Daily Light-January 7, 2011 > God called another angel home on January 6, 2011, and her family lost a mother, nana, sister and friend. Carol Jean Alsup Spurlock went home to join many dear brothers, sisters and a granddaughter, after a short battle with cancer.
Carol Jean was born on May 13, 1941, in Lone Elm, Texas to Lindsey and Maggie Alsup and passed away in January 6, 2011, at her home in Midlothian surrounded by her loving family. She was born into a family of 15 children. Carol worked for the Midlothian Independent School District for several years and met many children and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband and best friend, Cecil "Melvin" Spurlock. They would have celebrated 51 years together on January 22, 2011. Together they welcomed into their lives a very special son, the light of their lives.
Carol Jean is survived by her husband Melvin; son, Jeff Spurlock and wife April; two grandchildren, Jakob and Michael; her twin brother, Dean "Dick" Alsup and wife Irma of Waxahachie; another brother, Floyd "Jack" Alsup and wife Frances of Garland, Texas; and sister-in-law Marie Miller of Midlothian. Carol will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews and her dear friends.
She and Melvin always made sure everyone felt at home and treated everyone like family. She was a great cook and loved having people over or taking food to those in need.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2011, and services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Midlothian Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mt.
