After Harriet's death in 1895, her husband William Thomas "Dink" Dean (who suffered from Epilepsy) was unable to care for their children. They were all adopted out to other families. Dink was soon after sent to the State Epileptic Colony in Abilene, Taylor County, Texas. He lived there until his death in 1922. The State Epileptic Colony later changed it's name to the Abilene State School. He is buried on the school grounds.
