Bernadine (Fick) Gaige, 92, at rest August 5, 2008. Born November 27, 1915 to Frank and Ella Fick, Bernadine was a lifelong resident of Schenectady County. She met her husband after he transferred from Altamont to Draper High School, and they were married in 1936. Together they had three daughters and raised their family in Duanesburg. She worked many years at the Tom Sawyer Motor Inn and, after retirement, volunteered her time and services to the Duanesburg Volunteer Ambulance/Fire Department, Reformed Presbyterian Church and seniors bus program. An avid world traveler, she was also passionate about sewing, reading and gardening.

Bernadine was predeceased by her husband, Charles Blessing Gaige; daughter, Lana Swartz; twin sister, Geraldine Jewett; sister, Nellie Mann; and brothers, Edward and Luther Fick. She leaves behind daughters, Fern and husband Stanley Lee of Scotia and Wilma and husband J. David Lee of Knox; and nephew, Reid Jewett and wife Sandra of Crossville, Tenn. Mrs. Gaige is also survived by seven grandchildren, Tracy Roes Killian (Cooperstown), Ron Swartz (Anchorage, Alaska), Courtney Lee (Scotia), Jeff Swartz (Schenectady), Steve Swartz (Rotterdam), Rona Heaton (Glenville), and Heather Murphy (Hilton, N.Y.); great-grandchildren left behind are Andrea Roos, Madison Murphy, Derek Heaton, and twins, Owen and Sagan Murphy.
