Preston "Larry" Alder passed from this life at his home on Sunday 1 July 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Larry was born 14 February 1941 to Preston Denton and Cumorah Thurgood Alder in Logan LDS Hospital. He spent his childhood and most of his adult life in Providence, Utah. He graduated from South Cache High School in the spring of 1959. And spent the following six months in the US Army Reserves (active duty). He served a mission in the Southern States Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Janet Folkman in the Logan temple March 29th 1965. Six children were born through that union; James Preston Alder (Ireland) of American Fork, UT, Raelyn Rigby (Val Jay) of Newton, UT, Robert Anthony Alder ( Kelly) of Providence, UT, Marci Ann Thompson ( Ken) of Tucson, AZ, Shane Michael Alder (Melissa) of Nibley, UT, Amanda Joy Steele (Jake) of Helper, UT. The marriage ended in divorce.

After being single for sometime, he met and married Sharon Louise Hatch Giles on July 12, 2002 and they were sealed in the Logan temple July 12, 2003. Their union brought both of them much happiness. She has five daughters, Lori L Lindhardt (Peter) of Logan, UT, Sheri E. Smith (Brian) of Albuquerque, NM, Jamie L Fellows (Ron) of Logan, UT, Christi A Aarness (Robert) of Bend, OR, and Mandi L Tuft (Sonny) of Coppell, TX. Larry was raised on a farm and enjoyed farming with his father very much. In 1968 he was hired by Moore Business Forms in Logan as a maintenance machinist and was made manager over that department in 1969. He was manager of that department for the next 28 years. He also worked for Ipaaco, Majestic Ranch, and Logan City (golf maintenance department).

He was active in sports in high school, church and community. He organized the WBBA in Providence, River Heights and Millville and managed it for five years. He coached softball, baseball, soccer and basketball for the church and Providence City. He refereed and umpired softball, baseball, and basketball for Cache Valley officials through the Logan City Recreation Center.

He was active in the LDS church and served in various positions. He enjoyed most working with young people and working in the Logan temple baptistery. He was proceeded in death by his parents, brother-Dr. Reed T. Alder and his wife Joy and sister-Val Jean Nielsen and her husband LaThair.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon and their combined 11 children and 40 grandchildren.

His sisters Ruth Owens (Max) of Clearfield, UT, currently serving in Sidney Australia Mission, Carol Balls (Larry) Jerome, ID.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Alpine Hospice and Dr. Ali Ben-Jacob and his staff for all their help and support.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday July 7, 2007 at 12:00 Noon in the Logan South Stake Center- 340 West 700 South with Bishop Russell Ray Conducting. Friends may call at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan on Friday evening from 6 to 8pm and at the Stake Center on Saturday from 10:30am till 11:45am. Interment will be in the Providence City Cemetery.

Condolences may be sent to the family at Allen Mortuaries.
