"G.W. ("Gus") CROMWELL PASSES AWAY SUDDENLY
Had Been Prominent For Years in Athletic, Hotel And Elks Circles.
George W. Cromwell died suddenly last night at 10:30 o'clock at his home, 304 Decatur street. He was a son of the late former Chief of Police George W. Cromwell, of this city, and is survived by two sisters, Mrs. William Leonard, Youngstown, Ohio, and Miss Margaret Cromwell, of this city, and two brothers, Chas. W. Cromwell, New York, and Andrew Jackson Cromwell, of this city.
As a young man he was well-known as an athlete and a member of championship Y. M. C. A. basketball teams. For many years he was a clerk and assistant manager at the Queen City Hotel. In recent years he was connected with a surveying corps here. Fro many years he had been an active member of the Cumberland Lodge, No. 63, B. P. O. Elks. He was familiarly known to many friends as "Gus".
The body was removed to Stein's pending the arrival of relatives.
Mr. Cromwell was 51 years old. He had been a member of Cumberland Lodge of Elks for nearly 25 years.
Miss Margaret Cromwell, 216 Davidson street, who was visiting in Ohio at the time of her brother's death, arrived home early this afternoon. The body will be removed to 216 Davidson street whence the funeral will be held at a time to be announced with the Elks in charge.
Mr. Cromwell, who had been ill since last Wednesday, succumbed to a heart attack.
