On Saturaday, January 10, 1928, Ignatz Grothe married Mrs. Mary (Hassman) Kersting, of Bloomfield, Mary's first husband, August Kersting , died on April 3, 1923. With this marriage, Ignatz's family grew by ten children: Cassy (Karl Marenic), Jack, Rose (Charles Friedenbach), Kate (Henry Neuhalfen), Margaret (Charles Smith), Elizabeth (Francis Whitney), Helena (Edward Hafner), Bernard, Mary (August Leuenhagen), and Fred. After their marriage Mary and her small children moved onto the farm owned by Ignatz, and left two sons and a daughter on her farm place to run that operation.
Ignatz Henry Grothe lived in the Bloomfield area for 60 years, being one of the earliest settlers in the area. He died December 15, 1957.
Mary Hassman Kersting Gorthe was born on April 26, 1877 in Fort Madison, Iowa and died February 6, 1967. Mary lived on the home place until 1964, when she went to the nursing home where she lived her last three years of life.
