William Salter age 78
William Salter crossed the plains with a wagon train. Music was so important to his family, he forfeited much of his wagon space allocated for personal items to carry a pump organ instead. The family settled in Davis county and each week the organ was loaded onto the wagon and hauled to the church so that the members could enjoy the music.

William Salter Home Destroyed by Fire
The William Salter home of South Bountiful, almost an old land-mark was destroyed by fire last night.
A stranger passing by discovered the fire and called a neighbor out of bed and told him about the burning building.
The Bountiful fire department was called and responded quickly but the building was too nearly consumed when they got there for them to do much and besides there is no water system nor water in ditches near the place.
The origin of the fire is unknown.
No one was living in the place at the time. It had been vacant for a couple of weeks or more.
It is the property of Richel Goodwin of Salt Lake, a daughter of the late Mr Salter.
We did not learn whether there was any insurance.
The walls of the building were of lime concrete (not cement) like they used to build forty or fifty years ago and was two story high with a shingle roof.
We are unable to give an estimate of the loss but it will reach several hundred dollars.
