He used his middle name, Milton.

Milton and Ruth were married 1 Jan. 1935 in Berkeley, Alameda Co., CA. In 1940, the Sherwoods moved into a home in Calistoga, Napa Co., CA which has a bit of family history to it. The original home on that property was a log cabin built by Milton's great-grandfather, Enoch Cyrus, ca 1849. John Cyrus, Milton's grandfather, tore down the log cabin in 1867 (his family had outgrown it) and built a wood-framed home. That home was destroyed by fire in 1932, but was rebuilt on the same foundation shortly thereafter.

Milton was a sheet metal worker in St. Helena, CA. before he went to work at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, CA. He started as a welder and then went into Electrical Maintenance/Trouble Shooting. He worked at Mare Island for 30 years.

At the same time, Milton farmed a 27-acre ranch after work and on weekends. He grew prunes for commercial use by Sunsweet Growers, and had many fruit trees and a huge garden. His hobbies were electricity, ham radios, and his metal-cutting lathe.

The property Milton and Ruth lived on had been in his family 137 years when it was sold and they moved to Spring Lake Village in Santa Rosa, CA, a full-service retirement community. Milton died 20 days after they moved, but Ruth lived another 13 years at the facility. (Their former home in Calistoga is now a renovated bed & breakfast.)

They had one child, Marilyn, who graduated from Calistoga High School and St. Lukes Hospital School of Nursing in San Francisco, CA. Marilyn worked as a RN at St Lukes Hospital in San Francisco, Mills Memorial Hospital in San Mateo, St John's Hospital in Santa Monica, CA, American President Lines for 5 years, then worked the remainder of her career at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital in Santa Rosa, CA. She is now retired.
