John R. Creighton,404 W. Main street, collapsed and died unexpectedly Thursday night about 8:30 oclock in the First United Brethren church where he and Mrs. Creighton were attending services. Mr. Creighton for some time had been in failing health, but Thursday had experienced nothing which to him suggested that his condition was in any way alarming or if he did he said nothing to his family about it. The fainting condition into which he sand came so unexpectedly and his collapse was so complete that it was not possible to get a physician to the church prior to his death. The body was removed to the undertaking rooms of Monson & Wilcox. No arrangments concerning the funeral has been made.
John Creighton was born in Piatt county, Sept. 30, 1853 and until his retirement from active business affairs a few years ago his home had been in that county. For many years he was engaged in the furniture business and as an undertake to Cerro Gordo, coming to Decatur three years ago.
He was married t0 Miss Rose A. Huff, Jan. 27, 1881 and she with one son,Charles Creighton of Decatur survive him. Also he leaves a brother, Noah Creighton of Bement and two sisters, Mrs. D.A.Troxell of Cerro Gordo and Mrs. James Fischer of Bement.
John Creighton had for many years been a member of Cerro Gordo lodge 600,AF&AM, was a member of the Order of Eastern Star of Beaumanoly commandery, NO 9 Knights Templar and Ansar Shrine.
