He was an American railroad president born in Hong Kong and an uncle of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He was Chairman of the Committee on the Regional Plan for New York and Its Environs and was a member of the Commercial Club of Chicago which impacted the development of Chicago in the J 9th and 20th centuries. He also served as the first vice-chairman of the Federal Reserve from 1914 to 1916. He was the last family owner of the "Delano Homestead" at 39 Walnut Street in Fairhaven. The home was sold at auction in 1942.
