Mrs. Maria Jane Alvey, 78, died at her home, 101 Hamilton Avenue, at 4 a.m. Saturday [February 12, 1938]. Surviving are the following children: Clarence Alvey, John Alvey, Arch Alvey, Mrs. Lillie Johnson and Mrs. Minnie Thompson, all of Owensboro, Mrs. Virgia Davis, Indiana, Mrs. Florence Moseley, Decatur, IL, Mrs. Zula Birkhead, Lothario, KY. Thirty-eight grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Church at 8:30 a.m. Monday, the pastor, the Rev. James F. Norman, in charge. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jesse Lee Alvey, Cecil Alvey, Lewis Alvey, R.J. Alvey, Carl Phillips and Hubert Johnson.

J.P. Alvey, 79 years old, died at his home, 201 Hamilton Avenue at 2:30 o'clock this morning [February 15, 1935] after a short illness. Surviving are the widow; four sons, Charles Alvey, Clarence Alvey, John Alvey and Archie Alvey, all of Owensboro; and five daughters, Mrs. Florence Mosley, of Atwood, IL, Mrs. Ike Johnson, Pleasant Ridge, Mrs. John Thompson, Philpot, Mrs. Fannie Davis and Mrs. J.H. Birkhead, of Lothair, KY. Fifty-two grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, three brothers and four sisters also survive. He was a life long member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, also a member of the Holy Name Society. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Church at 8:30 o'clock Saturday morning, the Rev. Robert Willett in charge. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery.
