July 21, 1916 Salida Mail - ABRAHAM R. DOERING GUNNISON PIONEER IS BURIED HERE
Father of William Doering of Salida, succumbs to affirmities of old age. Served with Volunteers in Civil War.
The funeral of Abrahm H. Doering, of Gunnison, who died last Saturday at Red Cross hospital, was held at 2 :30 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the Christian church. The services at the church were conducted by the Rev. B. E. Stover and were attended by the G. A. R. and the Masons. The Masons had charge of the funeral at the grave.
Mr. Doering died of a complication of diseases, incident to old age.
He was born Sept. 10, 1840 in Crawford County, Pennsylvania. He answered the first call for volunteers for the Civil war and became a member of Company H, Ninth Regiment, Indiana volunteers. Serving till Sept. 28, 1805 when he was honorably discharged. He was married Beb. 18, 1864 to Jennie Van Epps, who died Nov. 12, 1877, survived by five sons and one daughter, who also survive the father. Two of the sons are residents of this county. They are William Doering, employed at Vaughn's feed and grocery store and Everett Doering, a ranchman in Adobe Park. The other sons arc Guy, Stephen and Fred. Mr. Doering had lived in Colorado for a quarter century and was well known in Gunnison county.
