Roberta Jean "Bobbie" Poynor, Galesburg Chapel
75, Quincy, IL, formerly of Galesburg, died at 4:08 PM Tuesday, October 13, 2009 in Blessing Hospital, Quincy.
She was born January 11, 1934 in Chillicothe, IL, the daughter of Francis and Dorothy Colwell Dalton. She married Gerald O. Poynor on November 9, 1973 in Carbondale, IL. He preceded her in death on February 25, 1991.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicki (and Kirk) Wemhoener of Quincy, son, James (and Kathi) Day, Jr. of Creve Coeur, IL, step daughter, Jodie (and David) German of Galesburg, step son, Gerald H. "Bucky" Poynor of Galesburg, grandchildren, Ashley Zanger and Andrew Wemhoener, both of Quincy, Randy, Ronnie, and Johnny Day, all of Peoria, Jerald "Andy" Day of Creve Coeur, and Candi (and Eric) Pool and Heidi German, both of Galesburg, and great grandchildren, Kristen, Gracie Jo, and Aaden Zanger, all of Quincy, Ashley, Lily, and Annie Day, all of Peoria, and Cody and Caity Jones, both of Galesburg. She is also survived by her constant companion and friend, Gizmo. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Bobbie worked for many years at J C Penney in Galesburg, where she worked in the ladies department, at the cosmetics counter and the jewelry counter. She was a member of the J C Penney retirement group. Bobbie's hobbies included playing Bunco, working crossword puzzles, playing cards, people watching, driving her car, and watching Wheel of Fortune each day. She loved people, especially her family and she always had a smile to share. She was ornery with a twinkle in her eye.
Funeral will be 2:30 PM Saturday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Kirk Kendall will officiate. Visitation will be 1:30 to 2:30 PM Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
