OBITUARY: — The funeral rites for Mrs. Anna Beers were held Wednesday [05/16/1934] afternoon at 1:30 at her late home and at 2 o'clock at the Grove Street U. B. church with Rev. Geo. Lutts, a former pastor of the church, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. L. C. Harrall, present pastor, and Rev. S. W. Perkins, pastor of the Main Street U. B. church. Rev. Lutts chose for his text the 22d chapter in the book of Revelations, which was a very appropriate text. The church was filled with friends and relatives. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. Mrs. Herb Peugh, Mrs. John Bogott, Mrs. Hugh Brown and Mrs. E. R. Frankfother sang appropriate hymns and were accompanied by Mrs. Harry Brown. The following Sunday school scholars of Aunt Ann Beers of 53 years ago acted as pall bearers: J. M. Winkey, Arthur Deets, Jerry Meakins and S. O. Crom. Burial was in the family plot in the Hazel Green cemetery. There were many relatives here from Sterling, Morrison, Milledgeville and the surrounding community. Lester Beers was here from St. Louis, Mo., Rev. and Mrs. John Beers of Leaf River. Her son, Rev. William Beers of Marilla, Mich., was unable to be here for the funeral on account of illness. Frances Ann, the daughter of Martin and Barbara Overholser, was born in Stark county, Ohio, on Dec. 22, 1839, and died at her home in Coleta, May 13, 1934, aged 94 years, 4 months and 21 days. She was married to Barnette M. Beers, April 3, 1851, who preceded her in death on May 9, 1909. To this union were born six children: Mrs. Rachel A. Hanna, of Milledgeville; Rev. William Beers of Marilla, Mich.; Miss Hattie Beers of Coleta; Mary, a daughter who died in childhood; Rev. John S. Beers of Leaf River, and Lester Beers of St. Louis, Mo. In her passing, but one of her father's family of 13 children now remains upon the shores of time to mourn her going, Mrs. Susan Howe of Morrison. Aunt Ann, as she was universally known, and affectionately called, was converted to Christ in her early girlhood and united with the United Brethren church, of which she has been a faithful member these many years. She was a consecrated Christian, a devoted wife and mother, and a good friend and neighbor. With the five surviving children, she leaves 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She also leaves many nephews and nieces with other relatives and a multitude of friends all of whom join in mourning her passing.
