OBITUARY: MRS. E. TANGEN
FUNERAL RITES HELD FOR MRS. E. TANGEN

Mother of Mrs. C. M. Kaasa Dies at Frederic, Wis., After Short Illness

Mrs. Ella Dokken Tangen, 88, died last Saturday afternoon, Oct. 10, at the home of her son Ole at Frederic, Wis., following an illness of two weeks. Mrs. Tangen was the mother of Mrs. C. M. Kaasa of Hanlontown. Mr. & Mrs. Kaasa and Mrs. Julia Dahl of Cambridge, Iowa, also a daughter of Mrs. Tangen, went to Frederic on receiving word that she was critically ill but did not reach there until after her death.

A funeral service was held for Mrs. Tangen in Wisconsin in the fore part of this week and the body was brought to Hanlontown where rites will be held in the Lutheran Church this (Thursday) afternoon, the Rev. H. E. Okland officiating. Burial will be in Concordia in the family lot where her husband and children who preceded her in death are buried.

Mrs. Tangen was born May 1, 1854, in Hallingdal [Valley], Norway. She was the oldest of 15 children. She came to the United States with her parents at the age of 14 years. The trip in those days required an ocean trip of two months. The family first settled in Wisconsin, later moving to Worth County [IA].

She was married to Ole Tangen and they settled on a farm three miles northwest of Hanlontown where they lived more than 40 years. Nine children were born to them of whom six survive to mourn the passing of their mother, being Mrs. Christie Dokken, Thunder Hawk, S. Dak.; Knut Tangen, Lisbon, N. Dak.; Mrs. Julia Dahl, Cambridge, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Allan, Madison, Wis.; Mrs. Thea Kaasa, Hanlontown [IA]; and Ole Tangen of Frederic, Wis.

Her husband preceded her in death twenty years ago. A son, Nels Tangen, died several years ago, and Mrs. Josie Arndt of Morristown, S. Dak. preceded her in death in the early part of the summer of 1942. One child died at an early age.

For approximately fifteen years Mrs. Tangen had made her home with her son Ole in Sparta, Wis., until last February when the family moved to Frederic in that state. While a resident of Hanlontown, Mrs. Tangen had also made a home for a granddaughter, now Mrs. Ora Dokken Ellison of Thunder Hawk, S. Dak. for a number of years. She, with her family and mother, Mrs. Christie Dokken, motored to Wisconsin to be beside Mrs. Tangen's bedside and were joined by other members of her family.

Mrs. Tangen will be remembered by many friends in this vicinity for her kindness and patience and other qualities as a good neighbor. She administered to many in want, helped where help was needed, and never spared herself. She has a host of friends who are saddened at her passing.
