CHARLES DAVIS WIDENER
Charles Davis Widener, youngest son of Andy and Jennetta Widener, was born Nov. 15, 1892 at Derby, and died at his home in Chariton, Sunday, April 23, 1950, at the age of 57 years, five months and eight days.
He was married to Fay Tacker May 3, 1919, and to this union one daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Betty) Jones, of Columbia, was born.
He served under our colors in France as a member of the 26th Division, 101st Infantry. He was employed at the Hawkeye Produce Co. for a number of years and for awhile helped in farming.
In addition to his wife and daughter he leaves to mourn his death two sisters, Mrs. Bertie Yont, of Marshall, Sasketchewan, Canada, and Mrs. Lucy Versilius, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two brothers, Tom and Walter of Chariton, and several nieces and nephews.
He was a loving husband and father and a good neighbor and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services were held Wednesday, April 26, at 2 p.m. at the Beardsley Funeral home with the Rev. Archie Beals officiating. Burial was in the Chariton cemetery. The American Legion was in charge of committal rites.
