Joy F. Potter, of Kearney, Nebraska passed away, October 11, 2009. Joy was born December 25, 1920, in Round Valley (Custer), Nebraska, the fifth of nine children, to William and Emma (Janesofsky) Weinman.

On May 28, 1943, she married Marshall Potter in Arnold. He died April 14, 1984. She grew up in the Arnold and Round Valley areas of Nebraska and graduated from Arnold, Nebraska High School in 1939. She later graduated from Kearney State College now The University of Nebraska at Kearney.

She taught third grade for 23 years in Elm Creek, Nebraska after spending 17 years in the rural schools of Custer, Blaine, Lincoln, Phelps and Buffalo counties.

She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge for 64 years, Past Noble Grand Club, Degree Staff and Drill Team, NEA, NSEA, local and state retired teachers associations, and the Buffalo County Historical Society.

She was a devoted, loving and kind mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.

Survivors include her daughters, Judy Johnson and her husband, Raoul, of Arnold, Nebraska and Janice Rayburn and her husband, Cy, of Gibbon, Nebraska; sister, Ploma Geiser and her husband, Morris, of Kearney, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Marjorie Weinman of Arnold, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Don Oberg of Sun City, Arizona.

Joy was welcomed into The Heavenly Home by her husband, Marshall, her parents, four brothers and three sisters.
