CAROLINE ENGLER
Caroline Freda Engler, 57, died October 18 in an auto accident northeast of Oelwein. Funeral services were held October 22 at Peace Lutheran Church in Oelwein, with Rev. Donald Berg, officiating. Burial was in the Ceres Cemetery near Garnavillo.
The daughter of Oswald Handke and Minnie Lundt, Caroline Engler was born on January 29, 1912 in rural Guttenberg. She was married on September 30, 1933 to Fred Engler who preceded her in death. To this marriage were born three sons and two daughters. Mrs. Engler lived in the Randalia community on a farm and also in West Union for a short time. Three years ago she moved to Oelwein. Prior to her death she was a student at the Vocational School at Calmar.
Survivors include two sons, Floyd, Oelwein; Duane, Randalia; two daughters, Mrs. Clyde Roeder (Marion), Strawberry Point; Mrs. Joyce Miller, Randalia; __ grandchildren; three brothers, Albert Handke and Edward Handke, both of Postville; Lawrence Handke, Cedar Rapids; four sisters, Mrs. Mabel Ranzow, Washington State, Mrs. Eleanor Eggert, Decorah, Mrs. Delores Sweet, Dubuque, Mrs. Lydia Schulty, Elkader. Preceding her in death were her husband; one son, Jordon; a sister, Mrs. Leona Doerring, and a brother, Manie.
