John R. "Jack" Shields, Jr., 83, of Mt. Pleasant, died September 27, 2007 at a local hospital.

Born November 13, 1923 in Derby, CT, he was the son of John R. Shields, Sr. and Anna Coss Shields. He was a 1946 graduate of the US Naval Academy and served during World War II. He joined B. F. Goodrich as a civil engineer and served in many management positions throughout the country. Jack married the former Almeda Rowley and together they raised a family of five children.

Jack will be deeply missed by his wife of 58 years, Almeda; two sons, Mark Rowley Shields and Jeffrey Coss Shields; two daughters, Margaret Tobin Shields and Laura Mary Shields; four grandsons, Kirk Mease Shields, Stephen John Shields, Parker Lee Shields and Jeffrey Tradd Shields; granddaughter, Kelly Marion Shields; and two sisters, Doris Shields Stark and Rosalie Shields Thorsen.

His son, John Randall Shields III, preceded him in death.
