Iris Opal Shumate Laird was the second child born to Ira Elbert Shumate and Okie Hurley. She married Donald Franklin Laird in 1952; they had three daughters. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ira Elbert Shumate. Besides her husband and children she was survived by two sisters; one brother; a cherished cousin; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held Loch Raven United Methodist Church; internment Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
