Jerry Ray Hughes, 71, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 1, 1938, in Bloomfield, Mo., son of James and Dixie Dillon Hughes. He graduated Bloomfield High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force.

He and Carolyn Wilkinson Green were long time companion of 28 years.

Hughes was general manager of Delta Asphalt of Louisiana and later general manager of Coastal Bridge Co. of Louisiana. He retired in 2000 and moved to Cape Girardeau in 2004.

He was a member of First General Baptist Church.

Survivors include Carolyn Wilkinson Green of Cape Girardeau; two sons: Steve Hughes of Kansas City, Mo., Craig (Becky) Hughes of Liberty, Mo.; two daughters: Pamela Green (John) Myers of Cape Girardeau, Tori (Michael) Pobst of Oran, Mo.; two brothers, Bill (Shirley) Hughes of Dexter, Mo., Bob (Georgia) Hughes of Warrior, Ala.; a sister, Louise (Harry) Yeakley of O'Fallon, Mo.; six grandchildren, Kristen Hughes, Bryce Hughes, Jimmy Griffaw, Jami Pobst, Jayden Pobst and Clayton Myers; and four great-grandchildren, Hunter and Houston Griffaw, Olivia Wagoner and Bryson Pobst.

He was preceded in death by parents and a sister, Donna Zorn.

Memorial service will be at 5 p.m. today at First General Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dean Jaggers officiating. Private entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
