Wilda Baker Sexton passed away Monday, Jan. 8, at East Tennessee Baptist Hospital in Knoxville following a brief illness. Mrs. Sexton was born April 25,1901, in Winfield, the daughter and youngest of 12 children of the late Calvin and Nancy Duncan Baker. She was married to Manford Etchel Sexton on June 3, 1922, and he preceded her in death on March 1, 1976. Also preceding her were one son, Manford E. Sexton, Jr., and her brothers, Sam, Granville, William "Bill", J. Henry, Doc, Frank Finley and Luther Baker; and sisters, Sally Baker Chitwood, Betty Baker Ryan, Maude Baker Hall and Martha Baker Cummins. Mrs. Sexton is survived by daughters and sons-in-laws, Wandaline and Aaron M. Jones, Alexandria, Va.; Wilda Theora and William E. York, Huntsville, Tenn.; Louise and Irel B. Reed, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Fayrene and W. Claude Terry, Jr., Oneida, Tenn.; Annette and Tom Mouat, Beaver Creek, Ohio; Edwina and Glen Greenwood, Coffeen, Ill., and Judy and Ron Hutchings, Sparta, Tenn.; and sons and daughters-in-law, Roy Denver and Dorothy Sexton, Oneida, Tenn.; Tommy B. and Naomi Sexton, Scottsburg, Ind.; Donald G. and June Sexton, Martin, Tenn.; Charles B. and Patricia Sexton, Oneida, Tenn.; and Sen. Landon C. and Faye Sexton, Pine Knot; 44 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. She also is survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Letcher (Emma) Sexton, Mrs. Maxwell (Virgie) Sexton, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Sexton, and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Huff, all of Oneida, Tenn., Mr. and Mrs. Oswell Sexton, Madisonville, Tenn., Mr. and Mrs. Malvin Sexton, Helenwood, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. Mrs. Sexton was a member of Second Bethlehem Baptist Church in Winfield since an early age, and was the oldest living member of that church at the time of her death. The family received visitors at West-Murley Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, and the body was taken to lie in state at First Baptist Church in Oneida from noon to the time of funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11. Officiating ministers were the Rev. Phillip Kazee and Minister Clifford Reel. Pallbearers were the grandsons of Mrs. Sexton. Burial was in the Sexton Family Cemetery near Scott High School.
