1930-2009

Funeral service for Mrs. Helen Welch Christian, 78, of Alexander City, will be Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. Jeremy Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem-New Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Christian passed away on Monday, March 2, 2009 at Russell Medical Center. She was born on October 4, 1930 in Alexander City, Alabama to Johny Durrel Welch and Lula Willoughby Welch. She was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends at Hillabee Towers visiting and playing Rook. She was an outstanding cook and was famous for her pound cakes.

She is survived by her daughter, Paula Rumsey of Montgomery; son, Joey M. Hamlet (Tammy), of Daviston; brother, Howard Welch (Elouise), of Barfield, AL; grandchildren, Robert Burton of Montgomery, Ronnie McClung of Montgomery, Sherri Spann of Alexander City, , Melinda Hamilton (Todd) of Bessemer, AL., Toni Rude (Trevor) of Huntsville, and Patrick Hamlet (Shelly) of Mellow Valley; and twelve great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Richard C. Hamlet; second husband Fletcher Christian; son, Ronnie Hamlet; and brother, Eugene Welch.
