The Rev. Dr. Jule Ayers, pastor emeritus of The First Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre, PA, son of Jule C. and Camilla (Chalmers) Ayers. He graduated from Northwestern High School in Detroit in 1929; earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan in 1933; a bachelor of divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York in 1936; master of science in education degree from Temple University in 1969.

The Rev. Dr. Ayers was ordained as a minister in the Presbyterian Church in 1936. He served as assistant minister of Central Presbyterian Church, New York City, from 1936 to 1939, and as minister of The First Presbyterian Church, Ossining, NY, from 1939 to 1943. He was a chaplain in the US Air Force from 1943 to 1944.

In 1944 he became minister of The First Presbyterian Church, South Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre. He retired from that pulpit and became pastor emeritus in June 1983.

He was preceded in death by a son, David, in 1991; and his first wife, the former Faith Ralph, in 1945.

Surviving are his wife, the former Alice Howorth; 2 daughters, 3 brothers and a sister and several grandchildren.
