Mrs. C. E. Hightower

HOLLIS, Okla. (Spl) - Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the Nazarene Church in Dodson, Texas, for Mrs. C. E. (Jewel) Hightower, 66, who died Thursday in Hollis Hospital.

Burial will be in Dodson Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Wanda Cardwell of Pampa and Mrs. Wilma Beanland of Hollis, and a son, Garland Hightower of Dodson.

Funeral for Mrs. C. E. Hightower Held Saturday

Mrs. C. E. Hightower, for many years a church leader at Dodson, and a resident of that area since before the founding of the town, died in a Hollis hospital Friday, Oct. 22 at 7:05 a.m.

Besides her leadership in the Church of the Nazarene, Mrs. Hightower was active in other parts of the area's life, including its schools and those other activities that would benefit the community. At the same time her neighborliness and her capacity for friendship endeared her to those whose lives she touched.

Born at Waxahachie on Jan. 5, 1898, Mrs. Hightower before her marriage was Miss Jewell Bynum. She came to the Dodson area in 1906.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hightower were conducted at the Church of the Nazarene in Dodson at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Maurice Moore, pastor, officiating. The Rev. J. E. Perryman of Childress, a former pastor, assisted. Burial was in the Dodson Cemetery under the direction of Coley Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Thurman Crownover, Joe Orr, Charles Grimes, Louis Patterson, Arnice Lewis and Walter Camp.

Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Lewis, T. E. Lennon, Jess Bogle, J. C. Howell, Bill Owens, F. L. White, Murray Dodson, Grover Graham, Fred Covey, Oscar Lewis, Clarence Black, H. C. Burge, G. T. Owens, Jr., Benson Hernandez, Albert Adkins, M. L. Johnson, Art Kane, Harry Lowell Patterson, John Aaron and Merlyn Carter.

Surviving Mrs. Hightower are her husband; two daughters and a son: Mrs. Sherrell Beanland of Hollis; Mrs. Melvin Cardwell of Pampa, and Garland Hightower of Dodson. Another son, Bynum Hightower, preceded her in death.
