DAVID M. TORRENCE DEAD
Cedarville Loses an Old and Highly Honored Citizen
CEDARVILLE: Dec. 29 -- We are called upon today to record the death of David M. Torrence, one of the old and highly respected citizens of this place. He passed away last night at 9:45 o'clock, at the age of 75 years.
Mr. Torrence has been sick only about a week or ten days, his ailment at first being typhoid fever, which developed into pneumonia. For the past few days he had been very low and while his death had been expected the news that he had passed away was heard by our citizens this morning with the greatest sorrow.
Mr. Torrence was born near Xenia and was a life-long resident of Greene county, having resided at Cedarville for the past forty years. He was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian church and in all walks of life was an upright man, who won the respect of all. By occupation he was a farmer, but had not been in active life for some time.
The deceased was twice married, his first wife being Miss Elder, of Logan county, who died soon after their marriage. Forty-five years ago he married Miss Nancy McMillan, of this place, whose death occurred about five years ago. two children survive him, Miss Lida, at home and William Torrence, the station agent at Cedarville. Miss Jennie and Miss Nora, two children who grew to womanhood and died several years ago, will be remembered by a number of our citizens.
