Willard Mae Fussell, 88, of 117 McMillan Street, Teachey, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.
She was born in Gaston County on May 16, 1921, to the late Dorsey C. Upton and Carrie Yount Upton.
She had been employeed at Duke Hosiery in Hickory, Burlington Industries in Greensboro, and the Duplin County Economic Development Commission in Kenansville.
She was a member of Teachey Baptist Church where she was active in the church's mission program for over 35 years. She loved to work in her flower and vegetable gardens.
In additon to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband William Elwood Fussell and a sister, Lucille Upton.
She is survived by two sisters, Eunice Upton Mitchem and Doris Upton both of Vale; two sisters-in-law, Mary Fussell of Tampa, Fl and Nancy Harrell of Angier, NC; three nieces, Kathryn Royster and husband, Bob of Chapel Hill, NC, Debbie Phillips and husband, Jerry of Tampa, Fl, Sharon McDonald and husband, Gary of Richfield, OH; and two nephews, William (Bill) Fussell of Atlanta, GA and Ben Harrell and wife, Jody of Fuquay-Varina, NC; great-nieces, Allison Shetzline and husband, Christopher, and Johonna Harrell; great-nephews, Steven Royster and wife, Brittany, David Royster, Ryan McDonald and Michael Fussell.
Visitation, 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, Friday, Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston.
Funeral Services, 2:00 PM, Saturday, Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Vale. The body will be placed in the church thirty minutes before the service. Officiating, Rev. Don Willis and Rev. Mark Rogers. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
