Mr. Boyd was born in Surry County, Mount Airy, Dec. 26, 1922, to the late Jasper Percy and Mary Belton Boyd. He was retired from Bentley Machine in Mount Airy, was a tireless and faithful volunteer with the Pilot Mountain Outreach Ministries and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pilot Mountain.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter and son-in-law, Marianne Boyd Dean and husband Curtis of Christiansburg, Va.; three grandchildren, Daniel Jessup and fiancée Arwen Pini, Sarah Huddleston and Jennifer and Jason Tabor; three great-grandchildren, Justin Tabor, Jackson Tabor and Chase Huddleston; and two sisters, Lorraine Oakley and Ruby Timmons, both of Mount Airy.
Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by his wife, Madelene Smith Boyd; a sister, Basco Dix; and brother, Coy Boyd.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Pilot Mountain by the Rev. Gene Sherrill. Burial will be in the Pilot Mountain City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Cox-Needham Funeral Home and Chapel in Pilot Mountain Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the Boyd Home, Hill Street, Pilot Mountain.
