Slim Doran
DORAN, Paul James "Slim" - Age 80 of Elkton, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2000 at a local care facility. He was born September 6, 1920 in Tecumseh, Michigan, son of Edward and Grace (Haines) Doran. He moved with his family as a young child to California,where his father farmed. The family later moved to the Cottage Grove-Elkton area of Oregon. He entered the U.S. Army on July 11, 1942 to serve our country during WWII. While in the Army, Slim was proud to be attached with Merrill's Marauders, under command of Brigadier General Frank Merrill. Merrill's Marauders were jungle fighters who won fame in the China-Burma-India theater. After the war he returned to Oregon. He was united in marriage to Loretta Frasieur on July 5, 1953 in Eugene. They have lived in the Kellogg-Elkton are for many years. Slim was a logger and had logged throughout the Northwest and Alaska. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post in Elkton. He is survived by his wife of over forty seven years, Loretta of Elkton, two daughters, Debra Cox and her husband Roger of Sutherlin, Paula Taylor and her husband Don of Sutherlin, three sons, Edward Doran of Sutherlin, Warren F. Doran of Valdez, Alaska, William "Will" Doran and his wife Kim of Elkton, a sister, Dorothy Binder of Elkton, 23 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Veronica "Honey" a brother Joe, who was killed in the Korean War and a stepson Harold Minter. Graveside services will be conducted at the Kellogg Cemetery on Wednesday, September 20, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. Military rites will be held by the V.F.W. District Twelve Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of TAYLOR'S FAMILY MORTUARY.
