Mrs. Lee died.
Helen Grey Ware Lee, of Kemp, passed away Aug. 13, 2011 at her home. She was born June 20, 1912 in Tolosa, to Edwin and Mamie Ware, both of whom preceded her in death.
Helen was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, George Lee, and sister, Willie Kay Hiett.
A lifelong resident of the Kemp area, Helen attended Tolosa and Kemp schools and pursued a higher education at OSU in Oklahoma. She was also a longtime member of the Methodist church. She enjoyed her family and friends and attended every State Fair until she was 97 years old. She was a well-known and well-loved figure in Kemp and she was involved in several civic organizations and clubs such as: the Book Club, Ladies' Auxiliary, El Progresso, Cedar Creek Women's Club, Homemakers' Club and she was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. Helen also showed her spirit for Kemp High School by attending every Homecoming Parade each year. Helen was a fabulous cook who began cooking for field hands, and later on, all of her family and friends. She would cook exquisite desserts (her Italian cream cake was the most requested) for local auctions and then donate the proceeds to her church along with handmade quilts and crocheted creations of her own design. Her ability at gardening was renowned with her fresh tomatoes as well as her beautiful yard that she tended lovingly.
Helen is survived by her nieces, Sally Watkins and husband, Philip; Janice Lee Floyd and husband, John; Sue Ellen Hains and husband, John; nephew, Jerry W. Lee and wife, Lisa; nieces, Donna Peacock and Dottie Peacock; as well as numerous grand-nieces and nephews, cousins, treasured friends and her devoted caregiver, Karen Perkins.
A gentle spirit and true lady, Helen was loved by all who had the privilege to meet her.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Lee were held Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 10 a.m. in the Anderson-Clayton Bros. Chapel in Kemp, with Pastor Elizabeth Turner and Pastor Patsy Brundige officiating. Graveside service followed in the Ware Cemetery.
