Freda Thomas, 92, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009 at her home in Westlake La.
Freda was born in Akron Ohio and has been a resident of Westlake since 1951. She was a member of the Nazarine Church of Westlake. Freda worked for Borden's as one of the original ice cream ladies. She worked behind the counter serving ice cream for 16 1/2 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend whose kindness was overwhelming to everyone she met.Nanny always brought happiness to those she touched and that knew her.
Survivors include her children, George "Tommy" Acheson of Weatherford Texas,Larry Acheson and wife Melinda of Shiner Texas, Jack Acheson and wife Connie of Pensacola Florida, Donald Acheson and wife Judy of Topsy Patricia "Pat" Goings and husband Tommy of Jacksonville Florida, Jeanine Hendricks and husband Dick of Moss Bluff, Sue McMillin and husband Hal of Westlake, a brother Wilford Burkett of Chandleville Ohio and a sister Vada Roach of Sulphur, 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Freda is prededed in death by her parents Charles and Anna Burkett,two husbands George Acheson and Charles "Yankee" Thomas, three sons Ronnie, Jerry, and Terry Acheson, three brothers and four sisters and a great grandson Clinton McGinty.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Monday October 5, at the Hixson Funeral Home Chapel in Westlake La. The Rev. Michael Howard will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Westlake under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home. Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday October 4 and on Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of service. The family would like to thank her grandson Adam for the special care that he gave her.
