He re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer February 29, 1864, at Fernandina, Florida, promoted to sergeant that day, and honorably discharged with his company August 28, 1865, at Weldon, North Carolina.
He married Rachel Elizabeth Ramsey ca. 1862 and fathered John Lincoln (b. 11/12/64 [?]), Thomas E. (b. 03/??/65 [?]) [at least one of the two previous birth dates must be wrong], Henry Geary (b. 02/14/67), Edward Thomas (b. 10/28/69), Robert Ulysses (b. 12/19/72), Olive A. (b. @1875), and David Curtis (b. 09/??/78). By 1870, he was a carpet weaver residing in Newberry Township, by 1880, in Fairview Township, York County, but by 1900 was a resident of Lower Allen Township, Cumberland County, where he died from "senile debility."
