A native of Tennessee, moved to Bethany in 1925 to attend Bethany Nazarene College, where he met his wife, Ruth Wilks. They started a legacy of Christian education with their children, grandchildren, and spouses all graduating from Nazarene colleges.
Keener retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company after 33 years and gave 20 years of volunteer services to the Bethany Fire Department. He was an active member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene for 62 years where he served in many ways, including ushering for 50 years.
Keener is survived by Ruth, his wife of 59 years; a son, Morris and his wife, Naomi and their children, Cade, Michael, Shelly and husband Daniele Slack; a daughter, Melba Lynn and her husband, Charles, Charles Case and their children, Jay, Gayle, and Sharlene; 1 sister, Jewel and husband, Albert Fain; sisters-in-law, Lacie Neal and Brownie Hicks.
Keener's brother, Lyster Neal, preceded him in death.
Memorials may be made to the Keener Neal Scholarship Fund at Southern Nazarene University.
Funeral service 10 am Thursday, Bethany First Church of the Nazarene interment in the Bethany Cemetery. Bill Merritt Funeral Home.
