Dorton Edmond Coats died September 26, 2009 in Dumas, Texas.

Coats, 90, was born in Tyrone, Oklahoma, on September 6, 1919 to James Fredrick and Olive Rebecca Coats.

After the death of his mother, Dorton moved with his father and siblings to Ponca City, Oklahoma. He graduated from Ponca City high school in May of 1937.

He later attended Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington and graduated in June 1946. After graduation he moved on to pastor various churches in Kansas.

After his retirement he moved to Florida.

In 1993, he moved to Texline, Texas and acquired rental property, which he managed until his health began to deteriorate.

in April of 2009, he was placed in Dumas Nursing and Rehab in Dumas, Texas.

On September 6, 2009 several family members helped him celebrate his 90th birthday with cake, ice cream and music. Cards were read from those unable to attend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen and nine siblings: Ray, Thelma, Theodore, Verna, LeRoy, Rena, Loyd, Opal and Nola.

He is survived by one brother, Donald and wife Maxine of Ponca City, Oklahoma; two step-children Dan and Pat, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Memorial Hospice, 224 East 2nd, Dumas, Texas or left in care of Cimarron Mortuary, Boise City, Oklahoma.
