Arnold R. Bertels, 76, died 7:45 a.m. Friday, April 16,
2004, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Staunton.

He was born May 21, 1927, in Dorsey to Arthur and Minnie (AljetsJ Bertels.

He married the former Iona Hillebrand on Aug. 27, 1955, in Prairietown. She survives.

He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a farmer, an honorary volunteer firefighter for Dorsey and a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Dorsey.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters
and sons-in-law, Cindy and Kim Spaits of Bloomington, 111., and Diane and Lawrence Eastman and Connie and James D. Corby, all of Dorsey; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kerry and Jill Bertels and Glen and Dawn Bertels, all of
Dorsey; 13 grandchildren; one sister and brother-inlaw,
Darlene and Julius Henke of Edwardsville; one sister-in-law, Mary Bertels of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Marvin and Dorothy Hillebrand of Bunker Hill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Emil Bertels, Norman Bertels and Earl Bertels.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Jacoby-
Wise Funeral Home in Bunker Hill. Visitation will continue
from 9 a.m. until services at 10 a.m. Monday at Emmaus
Lutheran Church in Dorsey. The Rev. Dr. George Gude
will officiate.

Burial will be at Emmaus Lutheran Cemetery in Dorsey.
