At a Nuptial High Mass solemnized in St. Francis Church, Wilmot, at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning, April 18th, by Father Lynch, Margaret McEneany, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward McEneany [Jr.] of New Albany, R.D. became the bride of Lawrence Dempsey of Lackawanna, N.Y.

Miss Helen Ballentine was bridesmaid, and the best man was Joseph McEneany, brother of the bride. Mrs. Xavier Kaier and Edward Rouse sang the Mass. They were accompanied by Arlene North on the organ.

The bride wore a very becoming blue silk crepe suit trimmed in gray fur with hat and accessories to match. She carried a bouquet of spring flowers. After the ceremony, a large reception was held at the home of the bride's parents.

Mr. and Mrs. Dempsey will reside in Lackawanna. Their many friends wish for them a happy and prosperous married life.

Notation: The many Irish surnames in use today have long rich histories behind them. The name McEneany originally appeared in Gaelic as Mac an Airchinnigh, which means son of the erenagh. The word erenagh refers to a steward of church lands. This was originally an ecclesiastical task, but was later performed by laymen, becoming a hereditary trade. Many variations of the name McEneany were found in archives from the Middle Ages. During the Middle Ages, surnames were rarely recorded except by clerks, priests and registrars. The spelling and language in which the people's names were recorded was often up to the individual scribe. Variations of the name McEneany found include MacInerny, MacInerney, Nerney, Kinnerk, Nerheny, Nertney, Nirney, McNertney, MacNertney, MacNerney and many more.
