After the death of his mother, he was raised by his stepmother, "Cousin Hattie", (Hattie Dilley Martin.) and helped farm and worked in his father's country store.
He had 3 siblings and 13 half siblings. He married Gracie Lee Smithhart and had 8 children.
He worked at many different jobs to support his large family. (He hated farming and sought other jobs) His last job was as a postal mail carrier in the hills around Bentonia, MS. He died of prostate cancer. He was much loved by all his family.
