ELK CITY G.A.R. MEMBER PASSES
Elk City, Sept. 19 – (Special) –
A.C. Eversole, 89, Civil War veteran and a pioneer resident of Montgomery county, died at 12:23 last night at the family home two and one-half miles northeast of Elk City. The deceased had been in failing health for the past year due to old age and complications. The Eversole family came to Montgomery county in 1871 and has lived on the same farm during that time. Mr. Eversole is survived by his widow, five sons and four daughters. The surviving sons are A.A. Eversole and J.C. Eversole of Grandfield, Okla; William Eversole of Elk City; Garfield Eversole, Earleboro, Okla., and O.H. Eversole of Niotaze; the daughters, Mrs. Tom Allen, Parsons; Mrs. John Main, Elk City; Miss Ophella, at home and Mrs. R. H. Stephens, Elk City. One daughter, Mrs. Bell Pilgrim, died June 17, 1928. Mr. and Mrs. Eversole had been married for seventy years, fifty-eight years of which had been spent in Montgomery county. The deceased served for years in the Union army as a member of Co. K, 13th Kentucky cavalry. He was an active member of the G.A.R. post at Elk City. He was also a member of the Baptist church. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Baptist church at Elk City. Interment will be in Oakhill cemetery. The body is at the Barnes funeral home.
